Week 2: An Upsetting Week!!

Another week, another loss...no wait... it's up...it's good!!! Yea, I got a tie???? What's that all about? I remember someone suggesting we could have used some half point scoring rules that might help eliminate ties....but NO!!!



Anyway, I tied my own son, so like father, like son I guess. That tie kept me out of the cellar. But I would have been in good company with Mark D. and "Peterson's My Forte" and Steve G. with his team "The Jaspers".

Speaking of Peterson's My Forte... Mr. Farte ( his new moniker) is stinking things up after 2 games so far. He has a total of 9 fantasy points this season. Guess what... so does my kicker I got for $1! Maybe I should offer Mark a trade.

QuarterBacks Activated This Week

This week the QBs dropped down to earth after a big first week. Activated QBs scored a total of 124 points which gives an average of 12.4 each. That's 25 fewer points this week than last and that is because Brees only scored 3 TDs rather than 6. But the most important stat is owned by tom Brady who scored 0 fantasy points. Who would have guessed?? Think Brady will have a stat like that again this season? Could happen...

Running Backs This Week

Total points this week scored by running backs that were active is up considerably over week 1. 207 points were scored week 2 compared with 168 points in the first week. 18 RBs were used this week which is also an increase over week one. The big back who scored the most for week 2 was Chris Johnson (Tenn) who scored 37 fantasy points against the swiss cheese defense of the Houston Texans.




My Texans Predictions for Week 3


"They are who we thought they are!"

The Texans won a tough game against a very tough team last week. The Texans always get up for division games and very tough opponents. But they also play down to the level of their opponents. They have done this time after time. And they got beat by the Jets because they didn't respect the fact that the Jets, even with a rookie QB in his first game, are capable of kicking ass! They didn't get up!!
Will they get up for Jacksonville? I don't think so. They will see the Jags the same way they saw the Jets, an opponent they can beat up on. As a result, they won't get prepared for the game appropriately.

Other reason I think the Texans will be 1-2 by Monday:

• The Texans have NO RUNNING GAME. The Texans rank dead last in the NFL in rushing after 2 games.
• The Jags rank 13th in rushing defense. Slim chance the Texans are going to use this week to climb out of the cellar.
• MJD ranks 11th in the NFL after 2 games in rushing. Are the Texans going to be able to stop him? I'm thinking about how the Texans did against Chris Johnson , Adrian Peterson, and Thomas Jones.

First Week Rant

Welcome to my space. This is where I can vent after each week's games and maybe share some insight as we go through the fantasy season. I have the luxury of TIME. I can use it to do some things you may not be able to. It is very possible as I review games and stats from the weekend, that you have already come to the same conclusions I have. But you may also have come to the opposite conclusions. I guess we'll have to play out the season to see who is right!!!

This blog is a project continually in development. As I learn how to do this by just doing it, it will get more interesting and hopefully entertaining. It will never be perfect.

SOME STATS

Are you curious about how players scored related to their positions? Here are some numbers to mull over.

QB's (only active ones were studied for this survey)

Out of 10 active QBs, the average was 14.9 fantasy points for week 1. Those 10 threw a total of 9 interceptions.
Drew Brees had the highest fantasy output with 38 points (6 TDs and yardage).
Kurt Warner had the fewest fantasy points with only 5. Two interceptions didn't help him at all.

Running Backs

17 running backs were activated this week in our league. Fantasy points ranged from 26 (Adrian Peterson - who else?) to one point for Willie Parker. The average for those 17 RBs was 9.88 in week one. And how did our highest cost player of the whole draft do this week? That would be Matt Forte who scored a total of 2 fantasy points. That's $33 for each fantasy point. OUCH!!

Running Backs (the 17 that were activated) committed a total of 4 fumbles and therefore lost points.

The Dollar Store Bargain of the Week Award
This fictional worthless award will be passed out each week to the player that scores the most points relative to his auction value. I guess that means that those players who were valued $1 are probably going to be the ones who usually win this simple acclamation.

This weeks award goes to Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills running back who scored 16 fantasy points and was had in our auction for the Bargain Basement price of $1. Either congrats are due the owner of this player for a great bargain, or congrats are due for having the cojones to activate such a lowly priced player. Maybe you had a crystal ball and knew he would score big this week, or maybe you had no other worthwhile options.

Receivers

This past week 22 receivers were activated. Some were found in the Bargain Basement and some were found in early rounds of the draft and were very expensive purchases.

This week the fantasy points earned by receivers ranged from 22 points to 0 points. Reggie Wayne had the most points having 10 receptions and 162 yards with one TD. The fact that Anthony Gonzales was injured in the first quarter probable had a lot to do with the fact that Wayne got the most looks from Manning. Manning threw for 301 yards so it is clear that Wayne got over half of the passing yardage himself.

The total points scored by active receivers this week was 175. That means the average number of points generated by these 22 receivers was 7.95. Another interesting note was that of these 22 players, only 1 fumbled the ball.
